In 2026 the CAT (Capital Acquisitions Tax) Act will be 50 years in existence.

In that time society has significantly evolved and changed. We are far more informed about equality and discrimination and this is reflected in recent legislation and policy such as our Equal Status Act.



However, Inheritance Tax policy has not been benchmarked against this legislation, leaving childless citizens exposed and vulnerable. Significantly their estates are targeted and are disproportionately taxed compared to people with children.

Successful lobbying by powerful sectors such as farming and business has resulted in extremely favourable tax exemptions in inheritance.

Your voice is needed to reform this outdated, discriminatory policy that is hurting ordinary citizens.
